Shoe Store gets its own Zip Code
AP: Saks Fifth Avenue says its new shoe department is so big that it's getting its own ZIP code. The Manhattan store is revamping its shoe department, and when it moves from the fourth floor to an 8,500-square-foot space on the eighth floor in August, customers will be able to send mail to 10022-SHOE. I've never understood the love affair for shoes.
My current wardrobe consists of a pair each of hiking books (what I wear off duty), loafers, sandals, and running shoes. Plus a pair of combat boots and military dress shoes.
That's it.
And I wear those shoes 'til they fall apart. I'll probably wear my ubiquitous hiking boots for 3-5 years before grumbling enough to get me another pair, and the loafers will probably last me a decade or more. I certainly by military shoes more often, but even then the sole on a pair of combat boots will last at least 3 years.
But damn if I don't always see adverts for huge shoe storage contraptions, closet pics that put Imelda Marcos to shame, and shoe stores with rows upon rows of footwear that look pretty much the same.
And there's always the truth or stereotype of women going gaga over shoes. Speaking for the men in the room, odds are we won't notice what your shoes look like, nor do we care how much you spent on them (unless it was our money).
The Hummingbird adds: Hell, we don't care about the man's opinion--we buy the shoes to show off to other women!

Women who have a closet full of shoes must have little to do and not much brain power to do it with. I am always suspicious of a woman who has a shoe obsession because not finding one pair to be satisfied with or discarding a pair after limited use for the new pair that catches the eye is a metaphor for how the woman treats friends.
