Open Topic: CENTCOM Commander Resigns
CNN: Adm. William Fallon has resigned as chief of U.S. forces in the Middle East and Central Asia after more than a year in the post, citing what he called an inaccurate perception that he is at odds with the Bush administration over Iran.
Fallon, the head of U.S. Central Command, was the subject of a recent Esquire magazine profile that portrayed him as resisting pressure for military action against Iran, which the Bush administration accuses of trying to develop nuclear weapons. CONTINUED
This is too timely to pass up, but I have read 100+ pages of homework tonight so I can't give it full attention. Thus, I'm leaving the thread in your hands!
I will say this much: in stark contrast with Gov Spitzer, who really did f**k up (pardon the p*n), Adm Fallon was forced to resign because someone else made a false statement. To see a 41-year unblemished career fall thanks to questionable journalism is a disgrace.
BUT... consider this quote from the above article:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Fallon's resignation showed that independent views "are not welcomed in this administration."
I think the "misperception" is hogwash, but just yesterday in my presidential class we discussed how important loyalty is to President Bush... much to the detriment of those who don't toe the line. Food for thought.
But alas, I gotta run. What do YOU think?

I heard Frank Gaffney (I THINK) speaking with Hugh Hewitt today, and there has been some, let's say, difference of perception about the threat of Iran. Admiral Fallon also was Commander over at the Pacific Command before he came to the ME. He never thought that China was a threat either. I do. Maybe he knows more that I do, but then again, read the Cox Report 1998. Have a good day!
