A Video Reflection on September 11th
I've spent a considerable amount of time today thinking about how to address the seventh anniversary. After all, I've said my peace before... two years in a row, in fact:
Of course, if you turn on the television or open the average newspaper right now, they're filled with patriotic text, somber memorials, and multimedia-enriched content. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, of course... an Associated Press picture of tear-streaked firemen in formation still says a thousand words.
But sometimes the lack of commentary, sountracks and staging is what's needed to tell the story. With that, I found a video that's magnificent in it's simplicity: just a family and their camera on Sep 11, 2001:
I'll leave two requests: First, the film is 26 minutes and 25 seconds long. Watch the whole film, but meditate on the portion between 19:41 and 21:41. I certainly reflected.
Second, the question "where were you on September 11" remains open. Feel free to share your story in the comments.
